Toleroxyl™

Re-educating urban skin

EXPLORE

The first cosmetic Tolerogen for hypersensitive skin

Immune re-education beyond soothing

Reprogrammes Langerhans cells into a tolerogenic state

Clinically proven to reduce redness and improve skin comfort.

What is Toleroxyl™

A plant-derived human protein that re-educates hyperreactive urban skin to restore immune tolerance.

Toleroxyl™ improves skin’s hypersensitivity by increasing its tolerance against external aggressors. Beyond traditional soothing approaches, this biotech active helps train the skin’s immune system to stop overreacting to harmless stimuli.

Recognitions and Certificates

Mechanism of action

Targeting Langerhans cells — the immune decision-makers of the epidermis
Normalising pollution-induced immune activation markers (CCR7, CD80, CD86 and IL-8)
Restoring tolerogenic pathways disrupted by indoor pollution (RELB, SOX4 and TGF-β)
Rebuilding skin barrier by restoring FLG, LOR, CDH1 and CLDN4

The concept

Modern life has changed the way skin reacts. Consumers are increasingly exposed to urban and indoor stressors (VOC, particulate matter, heavy metals and other contaminants). This chronic low-grade exposure can keep the skin permanently on alert, lowering its threshold for reaction and contributing to redness, tightness, burning, stinging and discomfort.

Sensitive skin is not only about inflammation. In many cases, it reflects an immune system that has lost its calibration — skin that can no longer distinguish harmless urban stressors from real threats.
Most sensitive skin solutions have focused on soothing, calming, reducing or blocking visible symptoms. However, suppression is not a long-term solution. What if we could re-educate the skin instead of silencing it?

Toleroxyl™ introduces a new cosmetic category: the Tolerogen. A tolerogen is an active ingredient that trains the skin’s immune system to generate tolerance — not by suppressing responses, but by educating immune cells to stop overreacting to harmless stimuli. Tolerance is a skill. A tolerogen teaches it.

The plant

At the core of its mechanism is GM-CSF, a human protein naturally involved in the functional programming of Langerhans cells, the immune decision-makers of the epidermis. These cells help determine whether the skin responds through inflammation or tolerance.

Through plant-based recombinant protein technology, Vytrus has developed a biofactory approach that enables the production of this precise biological signal in plants, combining molecular accuracy with the advantages of plant biotechnology: clean production, scalability and absence of animal components.

Toleroxyl™ binds to GM-CSF receptors on Langerhans cells, helping guide them towards a calm, tolerance-supporting state. This promotes TGF-β release and helps reduce inflammatory signals such as TNF-α, IL-8 and IL-6, supporting a healthier, non-inflamed skin environment. By reprogramming Langerhans cells into a tolerogenic state, Toleroxyl™ helps restore the skin’s natural immune balance.
