The plant
Lithops pseudotruncatella, a succulent plant native to the deserts of southern Africa, known as “Living Stones”, is specialized in managing water, space, and light to survive in very extreme conditions.
A very long-lived plant in the most extreme climate: it can live up to 95 years!
To maintain healthy cells and water levels during periods of extreme drought, this plant uses a secret weapon: the structuring of sugars. This structuring together with a peculiar metabolism allows Lithops to capture the light necessary for its photosynthesis without compromising its water balance.
