Vytrus Biotech is currently developing its own technology platform to produce recombinant proteins from plant cell cultures. Together with prestigious science centers, such as the CRAG (Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics), different tools to obtain a highly productive platform and a fast and easy downstream are being optimized.

Plant cells, same as the widely used mammal cells (CHO), can produce complex proteins, since they are eukaryote cells. It has been demonstrated that these proteins show higher homogeneity batch by batch and, at the same time, it represents a cheaper and safer technology. Also, the glycosylations are more similar to the human ones, when we compare them with the same proteins produced in yeast, bacteria and filamentous fungi.

Therefore, due to their singular characteristics, we firmly believe that plant cells will carry out an important role in the field of recombinant proteins production.
